How To Install chafa on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install chafa on Kali Linux.

What is chafa

chafa is:

Chafa is a command-line utility that converts all kinds of images, including animated image formats like GIFs, into ANSI/Unicode character output that can be displayed in a terminal.

It is highly configurable, with support for alpha transparency and multiple color modes and color spaces, combining a range of Unicode characters for optimal output.

The core functionality is provided by a C library with a public, well-documented API.

This package ships the command line tool.

There are three methods to install chafa on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install chafa Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install chafa using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install chafa

Install chafa Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install chafa using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install chafa

Install chafa Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install chafa using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install chafa

How To Uninstall chafa on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the chafa package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove chafa

Uninstall chafa And Its Dependencies

To uninstall chafa and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove chafa

Remove chafa Configurations and Data

To remove chafa configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge chafa

Remove chafa configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove chafa configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge chafa
