How To Install certbot on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install certbot on Kali Linux.
What is certbot
certbot is:
The objective of Certbot, Let’s Encrypt, and the ACME (Automated Certificate Management Environment) protocol is to make it possible to set up an HTTPS server and have it automatically obtain a browser-trusted certificate, without any human intervention. This is accomplished by running a certificate management agent on the web server.
This agent is used to:
- Automatically prove to the Let’s Encrypt CA that you control the website
- Obtain a browser-trusted certificate and set it up on your web server
- Keep track of when your certificate is going to expire, and renew it
- Help you revoke the certificate if that ever becomes necessary.
This package contains the main application, including the standalone and the manual authenticators.
There are three methods to install certbot on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install certbot Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install certbot using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install certbotInstall certbot Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install certbot using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install certbotInstall certbot Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install certbot using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install certbotHow To Uninstall certbot on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the certbot package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove certbotUninstall certbot And Its Dependencies
To uninstall certbot and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove certbotRemove certbot Configurations and Data
To remove certbot configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge certbotRemove certbot configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove certbot configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge certbotDependencies
