How To Install cernlib-montecarlo on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install cernlib-montecarlo
on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is cernlib-montecarlo
cernlib-montecarlo is:
CERNLIB is a suite of data analysis tools and libraries created for use in physics experiments, but also with applications to other fields such as the biological sciences.
This metapackage provides various Monte Carlo libraries included in CERNLIB (both shared and static). Likely only physicists will be interested in these packages. Note that the GEANT 3.21 framework is not included, but it may be obtained by also installing the geant321 Debian package.
Be aware that the libraries of Ariadne, Fritiof, Jetset, Lepto, and Pythia are not available within Debian due to licensing issues; see the README.Debian file in the montecarlo-base package for information on obtaining them.
There are three methods to install cernlib-montecarlo
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install cernlib-montecarlo Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install cernlib-montecarlo
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install cernlib-montecarlo
Install cernlib-montecarlo Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install cernlib-montecarlo
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install cernlib-montecarlo
Install cernlib-montecarlo Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install cernlib-montecarlo
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install cernlib-montecarlo
How To Uninstall cernlib-montecarlo on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the cernlib-montecarlo
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove cernlib-montecarlo
Uninstall cernlib-montecarlo And Its Dependencies
To uninstall cernlib-montecarlo
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove cernlib-montecarlo
Remove cernlib-montecarlo Configurations and Data
To remove cernlib-montecarlo
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge cernlib-montecarlo
Remove cernlib-montecarlo configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove cernlib-montecarlo
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge cernlib-montecarlo
