In this tutorial we learn how to install cernlib-extras on Debian 10.
What is cernlib-extras
cernlib-extras is:
CERNLIB is a suite of data analysis tools and libraries created for use in physics experiments, but also with applications to other fields such as the biological sciences.
This metapackage provides a few additional CERNLIB programs not included in any other CERNLIB package. Very few people are likely to be interested in them; currently they include zftp, pawserv and zserv. The latter two programs run as daemons through inetd and may raise concerns about the system’s security.
Installing this package along with the ‘cernlib’ metapackage will supply a complete set of all CERNLIB programs and libraries, except for those not included in Debian due to licensing reasons.
There are three methods to install cernlib-extras on Debian 10. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install cernlib-extras Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install cernlib-extras using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install cernlib-extras
Install cernlib-extras Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install cernlib-extras using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install cernlib-extras
Install cernlib-extras Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install cernlib-extras using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install cernlib-extras
How To Uninstall cernlib-extras on Debian 10
To uninstall only the cernlib-extras package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove cernlib-extras
Uninstall cernlib-extras And Its Dependencies
To uninstall cernlib-extras and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 10, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove cernlib-extras
Remove cernlib-extras Configurations and Data
To remove cernlib-extras configuration and data from Debian 10 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge cernlib-extras
Remove cernlib-extras configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove cernlib-extras configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge cernlib-extras
