How To Install cernlib-base on Ubuntu 20.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install cernlib-base on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is cernlib-base
cernlib-base is:
CERNLIB is a suite of data analysis tools and libraries created for use in physics experiments, but also with applications to other fields such as the biological sciences.
This package includes miscellaneous architecture-independent files useful for CERNLIB libraries and programs, including an example script that can generate a skeleton CERNLIB directory structure and Vim syntax highlighting macros for KUIPC CDF files and PAW “kumac” macro files.
There are three methods to install cernlib-base on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install cernlib-base Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install cernlib-base using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install cernlib-base
Install cernlib-base Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install cernlib-base using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install cernlib-base
Install cernlib-base Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install cernlib-base using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install cernlib-base
How To Uninstall cernlib-base on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the cernlib-base package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove cernlib-base
Uninstall cernlib-base And Its Dependencies
To uninstall cernlib-base and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove cernlib-base
Remove cernlib-base Configurations and Data
To remove cernlib-base configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge cernlib-base
Remove cernlib-base configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove cernlib-base configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge cernlib-base
