How To Install cereal on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install cereal on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is cereal
cereal is:
cereal provides a framework to easily set up and maintain automated, timestamped logs of serial lines, while simultaneously allowing end user access to them. This is probably most useful for providing automated, logged access to remote serial consoles.
cereal can control an arbitrary number of independently monitored and logged lines. Direct access to the monitored lines is allowed only to a specific user (who doesn’t necessarily otherwise have access to the direct serial line), but logs can be made available to any group. Logs are rotated automatically and their total space can be limited in size.
There are three methods to install cereal on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install cereal Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install cereal using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install cereal
Install cereal Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install cereal using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install cereal
Install cereal Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install cereal using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install cereal
How To Uninstall cereal on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the cereal package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove cereal
Uninstall cereal And Its Dependencies
To uninstall cereal and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove cereal
Remove cereal Configurations and Data
To remove cereal configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge cereal
Remove cereal configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove cereal configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge cereal
