How To Install cec-utils on Debian 12

In this tutorial we learn how to install cec-utils on Debian 12.

What is cec-utils

cec-utils is:

This library provides support for the Pulse-Eight USB-CEC adapter and other CEC capable hardware, like the Raspberry Pi.

This package provides the CEC utility programs.

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install cec-utils using apt by running the following command:

Install cec-utils Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update
