How To Install cardpeek on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install cardpeek
on Kali Linux.
What is cardpeek
cardpeek is:
The goal of cardpeek is to allow smartcard owners to be better informed about what type of personal information is stored in these devices. The tool currently reads the contents of :
- EMV cards, including NFC ones
- Navigo public transport cards (partially supports MOBIB as well)
- The French health card “Vitale 2”
- Electronic/Biometric passports in BAC security mode
It can also read the following cards with limited interpretation of data:
- Some Mifare cards (such as the Thalys card)
- Moneo, the French electronic purse
- GSM SIM cards
There are three methods to install cardpeek
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install cardpeek Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install cardpeek
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install cardpeek
Install cardpeek Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install cardpeek
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install cardpeek
Install cardpeek Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install cardpeek
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install cardpeek
How To Uninstall cardpeek on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the cardpeek
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove cardpeek
Uninstall cardpeek And Its Dependencies
To uninstall cardpeek
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove cardpeek
