In this tutorial we learn how to install caja on CentOS 7.

What is caja

Caja (mate-file-manager) is the file manager and graphical shell for the MATE desktop, that makes it easy to manage your files and the rest of your system. It allows to browse directories on local and remote file systems, preview files and launch applications associated with them. It is also responsible for handling the icons on the MATE desktop.

We can use yum or dnf to install caja on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install caja.

Install caja on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install caja using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install caja

Install caja on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install caja using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install caja

How To Uninstall caja on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the caja package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove caja
