What is cairo-dock

cairo-dock is:

Cairo-dock has a family-likeness with OS X dock, but with more options. It uses cairo to render nice graphics, and Glitz to use hardware acceleration. It’s fully configurable and can be a taskbar too. You can easily plug applets into it.

This is metapackage that provides the components necessary for running Cairo-dock. This installs a cairo-dock-core application and cairo-dock-plugins package easily.

And Cairo-dock installs cairo-dock-core and plugins and makes sense as Cairo-dock.

There are three methods to install cairo-dock on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install cairo-dock Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install cairo-dock using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install cairo-dock

Install cairo-dock Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install cairo-dock using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install cairo-dock

Install cairo-dock Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install cairo-dock using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install cairo-dock

How To Uninstall cairo-dock on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the cairo-dock package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove cairo-dock

Uninstall cairo-dock And Its Dependencies

To uninstall cairo-dock and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove cairo-dock

Remove cairo-dock Configurations and Data

To remove cairo-dock configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge cairo-dock

Remove cairo-dock configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove cairo-dock configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge cairo-dock
