Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install cadvisor on Ubuntu 22.04.

What is cadvisor

cadvisor is:

cAdvisor (Container Advisor) provides container users an understanding of the resource usage and performance characteristics of their running containers.

cAdvisor has native support for Docker containers and should support just about any other container type out of the box.

cAdvisor also exposes container stats as Prometheus (http://prometheus.io) metrics.

This package provides daemon that collects, aggregates, processes, and exports information about running containers. Specifically, for each container it keeps resource isolation parameters, historical resource usage, histograms of complete historical resource usage and network statistics. This data is exported by container and machine-wide.

There are three methods to install cadvisor on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install cadvisor Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install cadvisor using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install cadvisor

Install cadvisor Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install cadvisor using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install cadvisor

Install cadvisor Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install cadvisor using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install cadvisor

How To Uninstall cadvisor on Ubuntu 22.04

To uninstall only the cadvisor package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove cadvisor

Uninstall cadvisor And Its Dependencies

To uninstall cadvisor and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove cadvisor

Remove cadvisor Configurations and Data

To remove cadvisor configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge cadvisor

Remove cadvisor configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove cadvisor configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge cadvisor
