How To Install bzip2 on Kali Linux

What is bzip2
bzip2 is:
bzip2 is a freely available, patent free, data compressor.
bzip2 compresses files using the Burrows-Wheeler block-sorting text compression algorithm, and Huffman coding. Compression is generally considerably better than that achieved by more conventional LZ77/LZ78-based compressors, and approaches the performance of the PPM family of statistical compressors.
The archive file format of bzip2 (.bz2) is incompatible with that of its predecessor, bzip (.bz).
There are three methods to install bzip2
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install bzip2 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install bzip2
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install bzip2

After updating apt database, We can install bzip2

Install bzip2 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install bzip2
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install bzip2
How To Uninstall bzip2 on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the bzip2
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove bzip2
Uninstall bzip2 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall bzip2
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove bzip2
Remove bzip2 Configurations and Data
To remove bzip2
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge bzip2
Remove bzip2 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
