How To Install bzip2 on CentOS 7

What is bzip2
Bzip2 is a freely available, patent-free, high quality data compressor. Bzip2 compresses files to within 10 to 15 percent of the capabilities of the best techniques available. However, bzip2 has the added benefit of being approximately two times faster at compression and six times faster at decompression than those techniques. Bzip2 is not the fastest compression utility, but it does strike a balance between speed and compression capability. Install bzip2 if you need a compression utility.
We can use yum or dnf to install bzip2 on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install bzip2.
Install bzip2 on CentOS 7 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install bzip2 using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install bzip2
Install bzip2 on CentOS 7 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install bzip2 using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install bzip2
How To Uninstall bzip2 on CentOS 7
To uninstall only the bzip2 package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove bzip2
