What is boost

Boost provides free peer-reviewed portable C++ source libraries. The emphasis is on libraries which work well with the C++ Standard Library, in the hopes of establishing “existing practice” for extensions and providing reference implementations so that the Boost libraries are suitable for eventual standardization. (Some of the libraries have already been included in the C++ 2011 standard and others have been proposed to the C++ Standards Committee for inclusion in future standards.)

We can use yum or dnf to install boost on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install boost.

Install boost on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install boost using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install boost

Install boost on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install boost using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install boost

How To Uninstall boost on AlmaLinux 8

To uninstall only the boost package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove boost
