How To Install blcr-testsuite on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install blcr-testsuite
on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is blcr-testsuite
blcr-testsuite is:
BLCR (Berkeley Lab Checkpoint/Restart) allows programs running on Linux to be “checkpointed” (written entirely to a file), and then later “restarted”.
BLCR can checkpoint both single- and multithreaded (pthreads) programs linked with the NPTL implementation of pthreads. BLCR is also able to save and restore groups of related processes together with the pipes that connect them.
This package contains the testsuite needed to verify and diagnose problems with the local BLCR kernel module.
There are three methods to install blcr-testsuite
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install blcr-testsuite Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install blcr-testsuite
using apt-get

sudo apt-get -y install blcr-testsuite

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install blcr-testsuite
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install blcr-testsuite
Install blcr-testsuite Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install blcr-testsuite
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install blcr-testsuite
How To Uninstall blcr-testsuite on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the blcr-testsuite
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove blcr-testsuite
Uninstall blcr-testsuite And Its Dependencies
To uninstall blcr-testsuite
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove blcr-testsuite
Remove blcr-testsuite Configurations and Data
To remove blcr-testsuite
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge blcr-testsuite
Remove blcr-testsuite configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove blcr-testsuite
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge blcr-testsuite
