How To Install bitlbee on CentOS 8
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install bitlbee on CentOS 8.
What is bitlbee
BitlBee is an IRC to other chat networks gateway. BitlBee can be used as an IRC server which forwards everything you say to people on other chat networks like XMPP/Jabber (including Google Talk and Hipchat) and Twitter microblogging network (and all other Twitter API compatible services like status.net). There are also plugins for facebook and steam, and even more protocols can be used via libpurple.
We can use yum or dnf to install bitlbee on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install bitlbee.
Install bitlbee on CentOS 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install bitlbee using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install bitlbee
Install bitlbee on CentOS 8 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install bitlbee using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install bitlbee
How To Uninstall bitlbee on CentOS 8
To uninstall only the bitlbee package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove bitlbee
