What is bison

bison is:

Bison is a general-purpose parser generator that converts a grammar description for an LALR(1) context-free grammar into a C program to parse that grammar. Once you are proficient with Bison, you may use it to develop a wide range of language parsers, from those used in simple desk calculators to complex programming languages.

Bison is upward compatible with Yacc: all properly-written Yacc grammars ought to work with Bison with no change. Anyone familiar with Yacc should be able to use Bison with little trouble. Documentation of the program is in the bison-doc package.

There are three methods to install bison on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install bison Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install bison using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install bison

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install bison using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install bison

Install bison Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install bison using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install bison

To remove bison configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge bison
