What is bird

BIRD is a dynamic IP routing daemon supporting both, IPv4 and IPv6, Border Gateway Protocol (BGPv4), Routing Information Protocol (RIPv2, RIPng), Open Shortest Path First protocol (OSPFv2, OSPFv3), Babel Routing Protocol (Babel), Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD), IPv6 router advertisements, static routes, inter-table protocol, command-line interface allowing on-line control and inspection of the status of the daemon, soft reconfiguration as well as a powerful language for route filtering. This package contains IPv4 version.

We can use yum or dnf to install bird on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install bird.

Install bird on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install bird using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install bird

Install bird on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install bird using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install bird

How To Uninstall bird on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the bird package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove bird
