What is backup-manager

This is a backup program, designed to help you make daily archives of your file system.

Written in bash and perl, it can make tar, tar.gz, tar.bz2, and zip archives and can be run in a parallel mode with different configuration files. Other archives are possible: MySQL or SVN dumps, incremental backups…

Archives are kept for a given number of days and the upload system can use FTP, SSH or RSYNC to transfer the generated archives to a list of remote hosts.

Automatically burning archives to removable media such as CD or DVD is also possible.

The configuration file is very simple and basic and gettext is used for internationalization.

There are three methods to install backup-manager on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install backup-manager Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install backup-manager using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install backup-manager

Install backup-manager Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install backup-manager using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install backup-manager

Install backup-manager Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install backup-manager using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install backup-manager

How To Uninstall backup-manager on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the backup-manager package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove backup-manager

To uninstall backup-manager and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove backup-manager

Remove backup-manager Configurations and Data

To remove backup-manager configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge backup-manager
