How To Install awesfx on Ubuntu 20.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install awesfx on Ubuntu 20.04.

What is awesfx

awesfx is:

This package contains the following programs:

  • asfxload SoundFont file loader (ALSA)
  • sfxload SoundFont file loader (OSS)
  • setfx Chorus/reverb effect loader
  • aweset Change the running mode of AWE driver
  • sf2text Convert SoundFont to readable text
  • text2sf Convert from text to SoundFont file
  • gusload GUS PAT file loader
  • sfxtest Example program to control AWE driver

The package includes a collection of SoundFont managing routines called AWElib. By default, AWElib is installed as a static library.

There are three methods to install awesfx on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install awesfx Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install awesfx using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install awesfx

Install awesfx Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install awesfx using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install awesfx

Install awesfx Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install awesfx using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install awesfx

How To Uninstall awesfx on Ubuntu 20.04

To uninstall only the awesfx package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove awesfx

To uninstall awesfx and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove awesfx

Remove awesfx Configurations and Data

To remove awesfx configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge awesfx

Remove awesfx configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove awesfx configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
