How To Install avarice on Debian 11
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install avarice on Debian 11.
What is avarice
avarice is:
AVaRICE is a program which interfaces the GNU Debugger with the AVR JTAG ICE, and other debuggers, available from Atmel. It connects to gdb via a TCP socket and communicates via gdb’s “serial debug protocol”.
This protocol allows gdb to send commands like “set/remove breakpoint” and “read/write memory”. AVaRICE translates this commands into the Atmel protocol used to control the JTAG ICE (or other) debugger.
Because the GDB-AVaRICE connection is via a TCP socket, the two programs do not need to run on the same machine.
The currently supported debuggers are:
- JTAG ICE mkI
- JTAG ICE mkII
- AVR Dragon
There are three methods to install avarice on Debian 11. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install avarice Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install avarice using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install avarice
Install avarice Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install avarice using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install avarice
Install avarice Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install avarice using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install avarice
How To Uninstall avarice on Debian 11
To uninstall only the avarice package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove avarice
Uninstall avarice And Its Dependencies
To uninstall avarice and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 11, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove avarice
Remove avarice Configurations and Data
To remove avarice configuration and data from Debian 11 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge avarice
Remove avarice configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove avarice configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge avarice
