What is avahi-daemon

Avahi is a fully LGPL framework for Multicast DNS Service Discovery. It allows programs to publish and discover services and hosts running on a local network with no specific configuration. For example you can plug into a network and instantly find printers to print to, files to look at and people to talk to.

This package contains the Avahi Daemon which represents your machine on the network and allows other applications to publish and resolve mDNS/DNS-SD records.

There are three ways to install avahi-daemon on Kali Linux . We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install avahi-daemon Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install avahi-daemon using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install avahi-daemon

Install avahi-daemon Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install avahi-daemon using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install avahi-daemon

Install avahi-daemon Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install avahi-daemon using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install avahi-daemon

How To Uninstall avahi-daemon on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the avahi-daemon package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove avahi-daemon

Uninstall avahi-daemon And Its Dependencies

To uninstall avahi-daemon and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove avahi-daemon

Remove avahi-daemon Configurations and Data

To remove avahi-daemon configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge avahi-daemon

Remove avahi-daemon configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove avahi-daemon configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge avahi-daemon
