In this tutorial we learn how to install audacious-dev on Ubuntu 22.04.

What is audacious-dev

audacious-dev is:

Audacious is a fork of beep-media-player which supports Winamp skins and many codecs.

In the default install, the following codecs are supported:

  • MP3
  • Ogg Vorbis / Theora
  • AAC and AAC+
  • FLAC
  • ALAC
  • Windows Media (WMA)
  • WAVE

Additionally, Audacious is extendable through plugins, and contains other useful features like LIRC support. Support for many more codecs can also be added through plugins.

This package contains the development libraries and header files required for developing components for audacious.

Please note that this package no longer contains libaudacious, as libaudacious was dropped in Audacious 1.4.

There are three methods to install audacious-dev on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install audacious-dev Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install audacious-dev using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install audacious-dev

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install audacious-dev using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install audacious-dev

Install audacious-dev Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install audacious-dev using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install audacious-dev

How To Uninstall audacious-dev on Ubuntu 22.04

To uninstall only the audacious-dev package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove audacious-dev

Uninstall audacious-dev And Its Dependencies

To uninstall audacious-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove audacious-dev

Remove audacious-dev Configurations and Data

To remove audacious-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge audacious-dev

Remove audacious-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove audacious-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge audacious-dev
