What is atool

atool is a script for managing file archives of various types. It includes aunpack (to extract archives), apack (to create archives), als (to list files), acat (to extract files to the standard output), etc. atool relies on external programs to handle the archives. It determines the archive types using file extensions whenever possible, with a fallback on ‘file’. It includes support for tarballs, gzip, bzip, bzip2, lzop, lzma, pkzip, rar, ace, arj, rpm, cpio, arc, 7z, alzip.

We can use yum or dnf to install atool on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install atool.

Install atool on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install atool using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install atool

Install atool on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install atool using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install atool

How To Uninstall atool on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the atool package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove atool
