How To Install assimp-utils on Ubuntu 22.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install assimp-utils on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is assimp-utils
assimp-utils is:
Assimp is a library to import various well-known 3D model formats (“assets”) in a uniform manner. Assimp aims at providing a full asset conversion pipeline for use in game engines / realtime rendering systems of any kind but is not limited to this audience.
This package contains additional commandline utilities (currently only ‘assimp’) to interact with 3D models.
There are three methods to install assimp-utils on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install assimp-utils Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install assimp-utils using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install assimp-utils
Install assimp-utils Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install assimp-utils using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install assimp-utils
Install assimp-utils Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install assimp-utils using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install assimp-utils
How To Uninstall assimp-utils on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the assimp-utils package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove assimp-utils
Uninstall assimp-utils And Its Dependencies
To uninstall assimp-utils and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove assimp-utils
Remove assimp-utils Configurations and Data
To remove assimp-utils configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge assimp-utils
Remove assimp-utils configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove assimp-utils configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge assimp-utils
