In this tutorial we learn how to install arb-common on Kali Linux.

What is arb-common

arb-common is:

ARB is a graphical suite of tools for sequence database handling and data analysis. A central database of processed (aligned) sequences and any type of additional data linked to the sequence entries is structured according to phylogeny or other user-defined criteria.

The ARB project (from the Latin “arbor”, a tree) is a joint initiative of the Lehrstuhl fuer Mikrobiologie http://www.mikro.biologie.tu-muenchen.de/ and the Lehrstuhl fuer Rechnertechnik und Rechnerorganisation http://wwwbode.informatik.tu-muenchen.de/ of the Technical University of Munich.

This package provides the architecture independent scripts of ARB.

There are three methods to install arb-common on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install arb-common Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install arb-common using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install arb-common

Install arb-common Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install arb-common using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install arb-common

Install arb-common Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install arb-common using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install arb-common

How To Uninstall arb-common on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the arb-common package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove arb-common

Uninstall arb-common And Its Dependencies

To uninstall arb-common and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove arb-common

Remove arb-common Configurations and Data

To remove arb-common configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge arb-common
