What is apt-transport-s3

apt-transport-s3 is:

This package contains the APT AWS S3 transport. It makes possible to fetch files from repositories privately held on AWS S3.

To start using S3 based repo it’s enough to have IAM role on the server and to add line similar to the below to apt sources.list (more information in ‘man apt-transport-s3’): deb s3://s3.amazonaws.com/BUCKETNAME wheezy main

There are three methods to install apt-transport-s3 on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install apt-transport-s3 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install apt-transport-s3 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install apt-transport-s3

Install apt-transport-s3 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install apt-transport-s3 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install apt-transport-s3

Install apt-transport-s3 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update
