How To Install apcalc on Ubuntu 18.04

What is apcalc
apcalc is:
Calc is an arbitrary precision arithmetic system that uses a C-like language. Calc is useful as a calculator, an algorithm prototyper and as a mathematical research tool. More importantly, calc provides one with a machine independent means of computation. Calc comes with a rich set of builtin mathematical and programmatic functions.
Calc is built on top of the library libcalc that represents numeric values as fractions reduced to their lowest terms. This library can also be used to add arbitrary precision capabilities to your own programs and is available in the Debian package `apcalc-dev'.
The original name of this package is calc', but it had to be changed to apcalc’ for Debian, because there’s already another package called calc' in Debian. Nevertheless, the binary and manpage installed by this package are still named calc'.
There are three methods to install apcalc on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install apcalc Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install apcalc using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install apcalc
Install apcalc Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install apcalc using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install apcalc
Install apcalc Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install apcalc using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install apcalc
How To Uninstall apcalc on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the apcalc package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove apcalc
Uninstall apcalc And Its Dependencies
To uninstall apcalc and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove apcalc
Remove apcalc Configurations and Data
To remove apcalc configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge apcalc
Remove apcalc configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove apcalc configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge apcalc
