How To Install apbs on CentOS 7
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install apbs on CentOS 7.
What is apbs
APBS is a software package for the numerical solution of the Poisson-Boltzmann equation (PBE), one of the most popular continuum models for describing electrostatic interactions between molecular solutes in salty, aqueous media. APBS was designed to efficiently evaluate electrostatic properties for such simulations for a wide range of length scales to enable the investigation of molecules with tens to millions of atoms. It is also widely used in molecular visualization (in such applications as PyMOL).
We can use yum or dnf to install apbs on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install apbs.
Install apbs on CentOS 7 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install apbs using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install apbs
Install apbs on CentOS 7 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install apbs using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install apbs
How To Uninstall apbs on CentOS 7
To uninstall only the apbs package we can use the following command:
