How To Install ann-tools on Debian 9

In this tutorial we learn how to install ann-tools on Debian 9.
What is ann-tools
ann-tools is:
ANN is a library written in C++, which supports data structures and algorithms for both exact and approximate nearest neighbor searching in arbitrarily high dimensions. ANN assumes that distances are measured using any class of distance functions called Minkowski metrics. These include the well known Euclidean distance, Manhattan distance, and max distance. ANN performs quite efficiently for point sets ranging in size from thousands to hundreds of thousands, and in dimensions as high as 20.
This package contains the ann2fig (display ANN output in fig format) and the ann_sample (a sample demonstration for ANN) programs.
There are three methods to install ann-tools on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ann-tools Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ann-tools using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ann-tools

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ann-tools using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ann-tools
Install ann-tools Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ann-tools using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ann-tools
How To Uninstall ann-tools on Debian 9
To uninstall only the ann-tools package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ann-tools
Uninstall ann-tools And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ann-tools and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ann-tools
Remove ann-tools Configurations and Data
To remove ann-tools configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ann-tools
