How To Install amoeba on Debian 12

In this tutorial we learn how to install amoeba
on Debian 12.
What is amoeba
amoeba is:
Amoeba is a fast-paced, cross-platform OpenGL demonstration by Excess, showing realtime graphics effects in perfect sync with music. It features a full customizable demo engine, several visual effects, lots of graphics and a pumping soundtrack.
Amoeba won first prize in the demo competition at Underscore 02, a demoscene party held in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Note that this is only the demo engine – to watch the demo itself, you will also need the package amoeba-data.
There are three methods to install amoeba
on Debian 12. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install amoeba Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install amoeba
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install amoeba
Install amoeba Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install amoeba
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install amoeba
Install amoeba Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install amoeba
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install amoeba
How To Uninstall amoeba on Debian 12
To uninstall only the amoeba
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove amoeba
Uninstall amoeba And Its Dependencies
To uninstall amoeba
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove amoeba
Remove amoeba Configurations and Data
To remove amoeba
configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge amoeba
Remove amoeba configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove amoeba
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge amoeba
