How To Install alice on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install alice
on Debian 9.
What is alice
alice is:
Alice is an acronym for “Altogether Lovely Internet Chatting Experience” which is an IRC client that is viewed in the web browser. Alice runs in the background maintaining connections and collecting messages. When a browser connects, it will display the 100 most recent messages for each channel, and update with any new messages as they arrive.
Alice also logs messages to an SQLite database. These logs are searchable through the web interface.
For desktop notifications install libdesktop-notify-perl.
There are three methods to install alice
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install alice Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install alice
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install alice
Install alice Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install alice
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install alice
Install alice Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install alice
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install alice
How To Uninstall alice on Debian 9
To uninstall only the alice
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove alice
Uninstall alice And Its Dependencies
To uninstall alice
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove alice
Remove alice Configurations and Data
To remove alice
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge alice
