In this tutorial we learn how to install acme-tiny on Ubuntu 20.04.

What is acme-tiny

acme-tiny is:

acme-tiny is a tiny script to issue and renew TLS certs from Let’s Encrypt

This is a tiny, auditable script that you can throw on your server to issue and renew Let’s Encrypt certificates. Since it has to be run on your server and have access to your private Let’s Encrypt account key, the script is kept as tiny as possible (currently less than 200 lines). The only prerequisites are Python and openssl.

There are three methods to install acme-tiny on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install acme-tiny Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install acme-tiny using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install acme-tiny

Install acme-tiny Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install acme-tiny using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install acme-tiny

Install acme-tiny Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install acme-tiny using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install acme-tiny

How To Uninstall acme-tiny on Ubuntu 20.04

To uninstall only the acme-tiny package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove acme-tiny

Uninstall acme-tiny And Its Dependencies

To uninstall acme-tiny and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove acme-tiny

Remove acme-tiny Configurations and Data

To remove acme-tiny configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge acme-tiny

Remove acme-tiny configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove acme-tiny configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge acme-tiny
