What is acct

acct is:

GNU Accounting Utilities is a set of utilities which reports and summarizes data about user connect times and process execution statistics.

“Login accounting” provides summaries of system resource usage based on connect time, and “process accounting” provides summaries based on the commands executed on the system.

The ’last’ command is provided by the util-linux package and not included here.

There are three methods to install acct on Debian 12. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install acct Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install acct using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install acct
