In this tutorial we learn how to install Zim on CentOS 7.

What is Zim

Zim is a WYSIWYG text editor written in PyGTK which aims to bring the concept of a wiki to your desktop. Every page is saved as a text file with wiki markup. Pages can contain links to other pages, and are saved automatically. Creating a new page is as easy as linking to a non-existing page. Pages are ordered in a hierarchical structure that gives it the look and feel of an outliner. This tool is intended to keep track of TODO lists or to serve as a personal scratch book.

We can use yum or dnf to install Zim on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install Zim.

Install Zim on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install Zim using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install Zim

Install Zim on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install Zim using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install Zim

How To Uninstall Zim on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the Zim package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove Zim
