In this tutorial we learn how to install PyOpenGL on CentOS 7.

What is PyOpenGL

PyOpenGL is the cross platform Python binding to OpenGL and related APIs. It includes support for OpenGL v1.1, GLU, GLUT v3.7, GLE 3 and WGL 4. It also includes support for dozens of extensions (where supported in the underlying implementation). PyOpenGL is interoperable with a large number of external GUI libraries for Python including (Tkinter, wxPython, FxPy, PyGame, and Qt).

We can use yum or dnf to install PyOpenGL on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install PyOpenGL.

Install PyOpenGL on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install PyOpenGL using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install PyOpenGL

Install PyOpenGL on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install PyOpenGL using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install PyOpenGL

How To Uninstall PyOpenGL on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the PyOpenGL package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove PyOpenGL
