What is Lmod

Lmod is a Lua based module system that easily handles the MODULEPATH Hierarchical problem. Environment Modules provide a convenient way to dynamically change the users’ environment through modulefiles. This includes easily adding or removing directories to the PATH environment variable. Modulefiles for library packages provide environment variables that specify where the library and header files can be found.

We can use yum or dnf to install Lmod on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install Lmod.

Install Lmod on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install Lmod using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install Lmod

Install Lmod on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install Lmod using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install Lmod

How To Uninstall Lmod on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the Lmod package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove Lmod
