How To Install 0install-core on Debian 9

What is 0install-core
0install-core is:
Zero Install is a decentralised cross-distribution software installation system available under the LGPL. It allows software developers to publish programs directly from their own web-sites, while supporting features familiar from centralised distribution repositories such as shared libraries, automatic updates and digital signatures. It is intended to complement, rather than replace, the operating system’s package management. 0install packages never interfere with those provided by the distribution.
There are three methods to install 0install-core
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install 0install-core Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install 0install-core
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install 0install-core

After updating apt database, We can install 0install-core
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install 0install-core
Install 0install-core Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install 0install-core
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install 0install-core
How To Uninstall 0install-core on Debian 9
To uninstall only the 0install-core
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove 0install-core
Uninstall 0install-core And Its Dependencies
To uninstall 0install-core
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove 0install-core
Remove 0install-core Configurations and Data
To remove 0install-core
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge 0install-core
