How To Install uid_wrapper on Fedora 36
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install uid_wrapper on Fedora 36.
What is uid_wrapper
Some projects like a file server need privilege separation to be able to switch to the connection user and do file operations. uid_wrapper convincingly lies to the application letting it believe it is operating as root and even switching between UIDs and GIDs as needed. To use it set the following environment variables LD_PRELOAD=libuid_wrapper.so UID_WRAPPER=1 This package doesn’t have a devel package cause this project is for development/testing.
We can use yum or dnf to install uid_wrapper on Fedora 36. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install uid_wrapper.
Install uid_wrapper on Fedora 36 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install uid_wrapper using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install uid_wrapper
Install uid_wrapper on Fedora 36 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install uid_wrapper using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install uid_wrapper
How To Uninstall uid_wrapper on Fedora 36
To uninstall only the uid_wrapper package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove uid_wrapper
