What is speexdsp

Speex is a patent-free compression format designed especially for speech. It is specialized for voice communications at low bit-rates in the 2-45 kbps range. Possible applications include Voice over IP (VoIP), Internet audio streaming, audio books, and archiving of speech data (e.g. voice mail). This is the DSP package, see the speex package for the codec part.

We can use yum or dnf to install speexdsp on Fedora 36. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install speexdsp.

Install speexdsp on Fedora 36 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install speexdsp using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install speexdsp

Install speexdsp on Fedora 36 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install speexdsp using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install speexdsp

How To Uninstall speexdsp on Fedora 36

To uninstall only the speexdsp package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove speexdsp
