In this tutorial we learn how to install mgetty-voice on Fedora 36.

What is `mgetty-voice`

The mgetty-voice package contains the vgetty system, which enables mgetty and your modem to support voice capabilities. In simple terms, vgetty lets your modem act as an answering machine. How well the system will work depends upon your modem, which may or may not be able to handle this kind of implementation. Install mgetty-voice along with mgetty if you’d like to try having your modem act as an answering machine.

We can use yum or dnf to install mgetty-voice on Fedora 36. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install mgetty-voice.

Install mgetty-voice on Fedora 36 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install mgetty-voice using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install mgetty-voice

Install mgetty-voice on Fedora 36 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install mgetty-voice using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install mgetty-voice

How To Uninstall mgetty-voice on Fedora 36

To uninstall only the mgetty-voice package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove mgetty-voice
