How To Install m4 on Fedora 36
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install m4
on Fedora 36.
What is m4
A GNU implementation of the traditional UNIX macro processor. M4 is useful for writing text files which can be logically parsed, and is used by many programs as part of their build process. M4 has built-in functions for including files, running shell commands, doing arithmetic, etc. The autoconf program needs m4 for generating configure scripts, but not for running configure scripts. Install m4 if you need a macro processor.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install m4
on Fedora 36. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install m4.
Install m4 on Fedora 36 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install m4
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install m4
Install m4 on Fedora 36 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install m4
using yum
by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install m4
How To Uninstall m4 on Fedora 36
To uninstall only the m4
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove m4
