In this tutorial we learn how to install jwm on Fedora 36.

What is `jwm`

JWM is a window manager for the X11 Window System. It’s written in C and uses only Xlib at a minimum. The following libraries can also be used if available * cairo and librsvg2 for SVG icons and backgrounds. * fribidi for bi-directional text support. * libjpeg for JPEG icons and backgrounds. * libpng for PNG icons and backgrounds. * libXext for the shape extension. * libXrender for the render extension. * libXmu for rounded corners. * libXft for anti-aliased and true type fonts. * libXinerama for multiple head support. * libXpm for XPM icons and backgrounds. JWM supports MWM and Extended Window Manager Hints (EWMH). Note that Fedora package is built with all supported features enabled.

We can use yum or dnf to install jwm on Fedora 36. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install jwm.

Install jwm on Fedora 36 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install jwm using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install jwm

Install jwm on Fedora 36 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install jwm using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install jwm

How To Uninstall jwm on Fedora 36

To uninstall only the jwm package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove jwm
