What is ddrescue

GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file or block device (hard disc, cd-rom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue data in case of read errors. GNU ddrescue does not truncate the output file if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file, it tries to fill in the gaps.

We can use yum or dnf to install ddrescue on Fedora 36. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install ddrescue.

Install ddrescue on Fedora 36 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install ddrescue using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install ddrescue

Install ddrescue on Fedora 36 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install ddrescue using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install ddrescue

How To Uninstall ddrescue on Fedora 36

To uninstall only the ddrescue package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove ddrescue
