What is `chkconfig`

Chkconfig is a basic system utility. It updates and queries runlevel information for system services. Chkconfig manipulates the numerous symbolic links in /etc/rc.d, to relieve system administrators of some of the drudgery of manually editing the symbolic links.

We can use yum or dnf to install chkconfig on Fedora 36. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install chkconfig.

Install chkconfig on Fedora 36 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install chkconfig using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install chkconfig

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install chkconfig using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install chkconfig
