In this tutorial we learn how to install aspell on Fedora 36.

What is aspell

GNU Aspell is a spell checker designed to eventually replace Ispell. It can either be used as a library or as an independent spell checker. Its main feature is that it does a much better job of coming up with possible suggestions than just about any other spell checker out there for the English language, including Ispell and Microsoft Word. It also has many other technical enhancements over Ispell such as using shared memory for dictionaries and intelligently handling personal dictionaries when more than one Aspell process is open at once.

We can use yum or dnf to install aspell on Fedora 36. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install aspell.

Install aspell on Fedora 36 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install aspell using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install aspell

Install aspell on Fedora 36 Using yum

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install aspell using yum by running the following command:

How To Uninstall aspell on Fedora 36
