In this tutorial we learn how to install agrep on Fedora 36.

What is agrep

The agrep tool is similar to the commonly used grep utility, but agrep can be used to search for approximate matches. The agrep tool searches text input for lines (or records separated by strings matching arbitrary regexps) that contain an approximate, or fuzzy, match to a specified regexp, and prints the matching lines. Limits can be set on how many errors of each kind are allowed, or only the best matching lines can be output. Unlike other agrep implementations, TRE agrep allows full POSIX regexps of any length, any number of errors, and non-uniform costs.

We can use yum or dnf to install agrep on Fedora 36. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install agrep.

Install agrep on Fedora 36 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install agrep using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install agrep

Install agrep on Fedora 36 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install agrep using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install agrep

How To Uninstall agrep on Fedora 36

To uninstall only the agrep package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove agrep
