How To Install systemtap on Fedora 34

In this tutorial we learn how to install systemtap on Fedora 34.

What is systemtap

SystemTap is an instrumentation system for systems running Linux. Developers can write instrumentation scripts to collect data on the operation of the system. The base systemtap package contains/requires the components needed to locally develop and execute systemtap scripts.

We can use yum or dnf to install systemtap on Fedora 34. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install systemtap.

Install systemtap on Fedora 34 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install systemtap using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install systemtap

Install systemtap on Fedora 34 Using yum

How To Uninstall systemtap on Fedora 34

To uninstall only the systemtap package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove systemtap
