How To Install ren on Fedora 34

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install ren on Fedora 34.

What is ren

Whereas mv can rename (as opposed to move) only one file at a time, ren can rename many files according to search and replacement patterns, ala VMS and MS-DOS (but better). ren checks for replacement name collisions and handles rename chains (1 goes to 2 goes to 3 etc.) gracefully.

We can use yum or dnf to install ren on Fedora 34. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install ren.

Install ren on Fedora 34 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install ren using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install ren

How To Uninstall ren on Fedora 34

To uninstall only the ren package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove ren
