How To Install qemu on Fedora 34

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install qemu on Fedora 34.

What is qemu

QEMU is a generic and open source processor emulator which achieves a good emulation speed by using dynamic translation. QEMU has two operating modes * Full system emulation. In this mode, QEMU emulates a full system (for example a PC), including a processor and various peripherials. It can be used to launch different Operating Systems without rebooting the PC or to debug system code. * User mode emulation. In this mode, QEMU can launch Linux processes compiled for one CPU on another CPU. As QEMU requires no host kernel patches to run, it is safe and easy to use.

We can use yum or dnf to install qemu on Fedora 34. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install qemu.

Install qemu on Fedora 34 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install qemu using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install qemu

Install qemu on Fedora 34 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

How To Uninstall qemu on Fedora 34

To uninstall only the qemu package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove qemu
